Balfour Beatty Infrastructure wins bid for Pennsylvania Bridge Rehabilitation
(ATLANTA) - Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., an industry-leading civil
engineering contractor, will begin work in May 2009 on a bridge
rehabilitation project on US 119 in Connellsville, Penn. The $14
million project for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation
(PennDOT) involves extensive work on the Memorial Bridge, a five-span
steel plate girder structure that spans the Youghiogheny River. The
team will also replace the beam and deck of the Sixth Street Bridge, a
single-span steel structure.
The Memorial Bridge is 800 feet long and the Sixth Street Bridge, 108 feet.
"Our
bridge construction and rehab work has earned us recognition in
Pennsylvania, and deservedly so," said Jim Moynihan, CEO and president
of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "This is just one more in our long
list of ambitious projects, and we're looking forward to getting
started."
The crew will replace the substructure and
superstructure concrete, including pilings and shoring. Scheduled for
completion July 2011, the job also entails extensive structural steel
work and painting.
The bridge structure makes up about 70
percent of the project. The roadway component includes concrete and
asphalt paving, drainage, electrical work, guide rail replacement,
traffic maintenance and protection, new signs, and line striping.
Located
in the southwest region of the state, the job site is 30 miles
southeast of Pittsburgh and 40 miles from Balfour Beatty
Infrastructure's regional office in Eighty-Four, Penn.
