Southeast Region Honored with Building Star Designation
(WILMINGTON, NC) - After a two-year review, the North Carolina
Department of Labor has designated Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc.
a Building Star company for its safety excellence. The agency
determined recently that the Southeast region's safety program and
culture are rigorous enough to merit the special status, held by only a
small group of companies. "We're very proud of the
Southeast Region people for attaining this honor," said Jim Moynihan,
president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "The Department of
Labor picks only the best of the best, so this is a real tribute to the
fine job they've done. It's something we can all be proud of." The
Department of Labor makes its determination based on an extensive
application, a review of the health and safety program, employee and
subcontractor interviews, and site evaluations. "We
already enforce strict safety standards at our sites. Being part of the
NCDOL Building Star family will help us excel even more at something so
vitally important to our team - keeping our people safe," said Mark Johnnie, vice president and Southeast region manager.
Members
of the team will also meet periodically with the other Building Star
companies in North Carolina to share safety ideas and provide mentoring
to one another. Currently, there are only 21 other companies that have
Building Star status, only a few of them heavy civil contractors.
"This
honor is a reflection on the positive efforts of our Trent River Bridge
team, under the guidance of project manager Jay Boyd," Johnnie said.
"It's also a reflection on the company as a whole, because we're
following safety guidelines interwoven into the fabric of Balfour
Beatty's culture."
LaMont
D. Smith, recognition program manager, informed the Southeast Region of
its new designation on March 5. "It is quite obvious that your site
makes safety and health practices a vital part of your company's operations," Smith said in a letter.
