Freeport Regional Water Intake Facilities Win Honors for Balfour Beatty Infrastructure(SACRAMENTO,
Calif.) – The American Concrete Institute (ACI) has chosen the Freeport
Regional Water Intake Facilities to receive a 2010 Construction Award.
Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. finished construction of the
facility in March 2010. Representatives of Balfour Beatty
Infrastructure will attend an award ceremony in Pleasanton, CA, on Nov.
9. Work began on the $123 million job in Sacramento, CA,
in March 2007. It included the construction of a new intake on the
Sacramento River and a pumping plant with a capacity of 185 million
gallons per day. “The Freeport project is a monumental
work and our Western Region team certainly deserves this recognition,”
said Ray Bond, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure.
“This job has a far-reaching impact on the area, helping provide
drinking water for many thousands of residents. Freeport is part of an
array of water and wastewater plants we’ve constructed in recent years
on the West Coast, where our company has established a strong
presence.” Inside the plant, eight 2,000-hp motors
discharge the water into an 84-inch raw water pipeline. The team set up
four large-diameter surge tanks, a new substation and state-of-the-art
fish screens. “We’re pleased ACI has chosen to honor our
team,” said Bill Ogle, vice president of Balfour Beatty
Infrastructure’s Western Region. “We’ve had other water and wastewater
projects receive special recognition from industry organizations. It’s
a tradition of excellence we plan to continue.”
ACI picked this
project as the winner in the construction category, one of five
categories in the competition. The Construction Award was established
in 1944 to honor workers who complete structures from drawings and
specifications. Recipients demonstrate “outstanding merit on concrete
construction practice.” Based in Farmington Hills, MI, the non-profit
technical and educational society organized in 1904 as an industry
authority on concrete technology.
