Ceremony to Mark Opening of Freeport Water Facility

(SACRAMENTO, CA) - After more than four years of construction by Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., The Freeport Regional Water Project Intake Facility will officially open Thursday, April 8, in Sacramento, California. A dedication ceremony will mark the opening of the $121 million facility.

The raw water intake and pumping plant on the Sacramento River will supply the new Vineyard Water Treatment Plant with enough water to provide customers 85 million gallons per day. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure is also constructing the $207 million Vineyard facility, which is scheduled for completion in 2011.

"Massive projects like Freeport really help put Balfour Beatty Infrastructure on the map as a major contractor in the United States," said Jim Moynihan, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "We have several of these water and wastewater plant projects going on in California right now. Despite the challenges and the huge scope of work, we're getting them done smoothly, in a timely manner. Our Western Region teams deserve a tremendous amount of credit."

Balfour Beatty Infrastructure is performing the work for the Freeport Regional Water Authority, which is a cooperative effort between the Sacramento County Water Authority and East Bay Municipal Utility District of Oakland. The construction team had to demolish an existing wastewater treatment plant at the site before beginning work on the new Freeport facility.
"This was one of our more challenging projects to bring on line," said Crandall Bates, Northern California Region manager for Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "But overall, we had a great team, great support and cooperation between all parties."

The ceremony, which will take place in the new facility, is by invitation only. Several government dignitaries are scheduled to attend.

The American Society of Civil Engineers' Sacramento section recently honored the Freeport project by naming it the 2010 Outstanding Engineering Project Award in the water/wastewater category.
