Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Teams
Win Bids for North Carolina Highway Projects
(ATLANTA) - Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., an industry-leading
civil engineering contractor, was formally awarded two new contracts
with the North Carolina Department of Transportation totalling more
than $35 million.
"The southeast, especially North Carolina, is a strategic growth
market for us," said Jim Moynihan, president and chief executive
officer of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "These new contracts will
help solidify and expand our regional presence, and we look forward to
working with our partners and the NCDOT on what will sure to be safe
and successful projects."
The U.S. 70 Goldsboro Bypass construction project, on the
northern outskirts of Goldsboro, N.C., involves 3.9 miles of four-lane
divided roadway with 16 bridges. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure will
work on the three year $23 million job as a subcontractor of Barnhill
Contracting. The team will begin work on Sept. 28, 2008, and finish on
Nov. 15, 2011.
The second contract, an $11.8 million contract for the widening
of Morganton Road (SR 1404), will begin on Sept. 29, 2008, and end Nov.
15, 2009. The job involves .6 miles of highway, three retaining walls
and four ramps associated with the All American Freeway. The contract
calls for the demolition of an overpass bridge and replacement with a
wider bridge. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure will oversee subcontractors
hired to complete the earthworks, drainage, water piping, electrical,
signage, guardrails, asphalt and several other aspects of the project.
This site is near the main gate of the Fort Bragg U.S. Army Base and a
busy access road to the Cross Creek Mall.
