Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Teams Win Bids for North Carolina Highway Projects

(ATLANTA) - Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., an industry-leading civil engineering contractor, was formally awarded two new contracts with the North Carolina Department of Transportation totalling more than $35 million.

"The southeast, especially North Carolina, is a strategic growth market for us," said Jim Moynihan, president and chief executive officer of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "These new contracts will help solidify and expand our regional presence, and we look forward to working with our partners and the NCDOT on what will sure to be safe and successful projects."

The U.S. 70 Goldsboro Bypass construction project, on the northern outskirts of Goldsboro, N.C., involves 3.9 miles of four-lane divided roadway with 16 bridges. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure will work on the three year $23 million job as a subcontractor of Barnhill Contracting. The team will begin work on Sept. 28, 2008, and finish on Nov. 15, 2011.

The second contract, an $11.8 million contract for the widening of Morganton Road (SR 1404), will begin on Sept. 29, 2008, and end Nov. 15, 2009. The job involves .6 miles of highway, three retaining walls and four ramps associated with the All American Freeway. The contract calls for the demolition of an overpass bridge and replacement with a wider bridge. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure will oversee subcontractors hired to complete the earthworks, drainage, water piping, electrical, signage, guardrails, asphalt and several other aspects of the project. This site is near the main gate of the Fort Bragg U.S. Army Base and a busy access road to the Cross Creek Mall.
