Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Wins Bid for Highway Project Near
Savannah, Ga.

(ATLANTA) - Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., an industry-leading civil engineering contractor, will begin construction work in March on the Harry S. Truman Parkway just south of Savannah, Ga. The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded the $67 million project on Jan. 22, 2010. The team will build about two miles of new highway and three bridges. The project is scheduled to run 45 months, with a finish date of December 2013.

"This is a welcome addition to our project portfolio," said Jim Moynihan, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "We've done work in Georgia before, but it's never been a major focus. With this job, we'll have a great opportunity to establish ourselves in that market."

The contract calls for a 5,000-foot twin bridge over the Vernon River, an extremely sensitive area, environmentally. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure will construct the new bridge from both a temporary trestle bridge and from barges. The team will also build two smaller bridges over existing roads.

Funding for the job is coming from the state of Georgia and the Federal Highway Administration.

"A tremendous amount of material will go into this project," said Mark Johnnie, vice president of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure's Southeast Region. "The bridge over the river will require considerable resources, but we excel in this kind of work and we anticipate an excellent outcome. The community should be very happy with it."
