Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Opens Morganton Bridge Ahead
of Schedule

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. has opened all lanes of traffic on the new Morganton Road Bridge early as it works on completing the $11.8 million project.

The company's Southeast Region team is building a new bridge and widening the approaches in Fayetteville, N.C., near the Fort Bragg U.S. Army base. The contract called for the partial opening of the project by the end of July, but workers beat the deadline by opening up the entire bridge and approaches, allowing the full flow of traffic to resume.

"This team did an outstanding job, working seven days a week to open up the lanes early," said Jim Moynihan, president and chief executive officer of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. "Project manager Keith Nixon exhibited excellent leadership and oversight, which really helped the success of this job."

The project began Sept. 29, 2008, and is scheduled for full completion Nov. 15, 2009. Workers demolished the old structure and replaced it with a wider bridge to accommodate more traffic volume. The job involves more than half a mile of highway, three retaining walls and four ramps. Other work includes drainage, earthworks, water piping, electrical, signage, guardrails and asphalt.

"This early opening of the lanes will be a big help to the community and its businesses," said Moynihan. "No driver likes lane closures, so area motorists will definitely appreciate this extra effort by our people."
