Balfour Beatty Infrastructure to improve two-mile stretch of I-5
(SEATTLE) - Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., an industry-leading civil
engineering contractor, will begin a highway project in June that
includes sound barriers, retaining walls, shoulder paving and other
improvements to I-5. The Roxford Avenue project is a $14.8 million
contract with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans).
The
job encompasses a two-mile stretch of I-5 in San Fernando, Calif.,
beginning at the 118 Freeway and running north. Caltrans awarded the
contract in May 2009. The sound wall will shield the surrounding
neighborhood and businesses from the noise of freeway traffic. In
addition to the retaining walls and shoulder paving, the team will
widen the freeway to create a merge lane.
"This will bring
substantial improvements to the area, affecting the quality of life for
residents and businesses," said Jim Moynihan, president and CEO of
Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. The project is scheduled for completion
in June 2010.
