Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Begins Work on $89 Million Wastewater Treatment Plant(SEATTLE)
- Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., an industry-leading civil
engineering contractor, began construction Jan. 19, 2009, on the new
Sunnyside Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lake Stevens, Wash. The $89
million contract with the Lake Stevens Sewer District will run through
2011.
"Securing this work in Washington is an integral part of
our strategy to expand along the West Coast and meet the increasing
demand for more water and wastewater treatment plant infrastructure,"
said Jim Moynihan, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure.

Balfour Beatty
Infrastructure will build the 5 million gallon-per-day plant, which
will also include the area that receives the wastewater, an aeration
system, ultraviolet disinfection and all the other parts of the
treatment process. Other structures and earthworks in the project
include a generator building, an administration building, a shop and a
stormwater detention pond. Balfour Beatty Infrastructure will construct
the treatment structures with reinforced concrete.
Balfour
Beatty Infrastructure will also furnish and install an effluent
pipeline in a trench to an outfall in the existing slough. As part of
this contract, the team will also furnish and install a lift station
and sewer pipeline just north of the plant. The construction design
will allow for future expansion.
