Military Community to Get New Roadwork
from Balfour Beatty Infrastructure

(JACKSONVILLE, N.C.) – Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. will construct the new Western Parkway Road near military complexes in Jacksonville, N.C., while providing improvements to other area roadways for the North Carolina Department of Transportation. The $28.8 million project includes widening of US-17 and Marine Boulevard.

Western Parkway will run from 1,300 feet south of Country Club Road and connect to Western Boulevard. The team will construct more than 800,000 cubic yards of fill, five new bridge structures, reinforced concrete slabs, box culverts, retaining walls and sound barrier walls.

The work is designed to alleviate traffic congestion in a community that is home to the U.S. Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River.

“This project is part of a strong presence in North Carolina, where our Southeast Region has been engaged in a number of important projects during the past few years,” said Ray Bond, president and CEO of Balfour Beatty Infrastructure. “This one will be of great benefit to the community, which has a heavy military presence and experiences a great deal of traffic congestion.”

The work is set to begin Nov. 29, 2010, and finish Sept. 15, 2013.
