Trent River Bridge

Trent River Bridge

Client: North Carolina Department of Transportation
Location: New Bern, NC
Start Date: June 2007
End Date: November 2009
Contract Amount: $39.3 million

Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. completed work on the Trent River Bridge replacement in early 2010. The New Bern, N.C., project was awarded in April 2007. In the summer of 2007, the New Bern community held a "funeral" for the old Alfred Cunningham swing-span bridge over the Trent River. A short time later, the crew began demolition of the vintage 1954 bridge while installing substructure work and cofferdams.

Balfour Beatty Infrastructure was successful in beating a critical milestone -- the beginning of a 4½-month moratorium on "in water" work. The environmentally sensitive project was finished in time for New Bern's 300th anniversary celebration.
