SR 161/270 InterchangeClient: Ohio Department of Transportation Location: Columbus, OH Start Date: June 2004 End Date: October 2008 Contract Amount: $130 million
Increasing volumes of traffic and the old-style design of the highway
entrance and exit ramps were creating a dangerous situation for
motorists on one of the busiest roads in the Columbus area. The State
of Ohio combined two projects to ensure coordination between all phases
of the project activity.
This
complex, $130 million project where I-270 and SR 161 intersect was one of the largest
transportation projects ever awarded by the Ohio Department of
Transportation. It involved replacing existing cloverleaf-style ramps
with new fly-over ramps to help eliminate weaving, merging and traffic
pinch-points. New construction also included 17 bridges, 18 ramps and
five miles of highway.
Work began in June 2004 and wrapped up in October 2008.
