MD 450
In an effort to improve safety and reduce major traffic backups resulting from freight train crossings, the Maryland State Highway Administration has awarded a contract to Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. to construct a new bridge to carry trains over MD 450 (Annapolis Road) and Upshur Street in Bladensburg.

Owner:

Maryland Department of Transportation

Location:

Bladensburg, Prince George's County, Maryland

Contract Value:

$48.5 million

The project involves constructing 1.25 miles of railroad track for the grade separation of the CSX railroad, eight retaining walls, one temporary bridge and three permanent bridges. The new track is being moved up and over MD 450. This $48.5 million project is an important step to reducing traffic delays in a congested area. Previous delays, which could last up to 15 minutes, will be eliminated by the new grade crossing.
