Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc., joint venture partner Jay Cashman and major subcontractor Balfour
Beatty Rail, Inc. completed the long-awaited Massachusetts Bay
Transportation Authority Greenbush Old Colony Commuter Rail Line in
Boston. The inaugural train journey took place in October 2007, when
Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray and other state and local
officials boarded the train, making ceremonial stops in five towns.
The
design-build joint venture featured an 18-mile rail line, 28 grade
crossings, seven new stations with 3,100 parking spaces, a five-track
layover facility, two 3,000-foot underpasses and 14 bridges. State
transportation officials expect that the line will eventually carry
about 8,600 customers every weekday.
