Riverside Badlands Tunnel

 This joint venture of M.L. Shank, Co. and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure, Inc. involved driving more than 42,000 feet (about eight miles) of 18-foot diameter mixed face tunnel with a boring machine.

The $120 million tunnel project, which began in July 1998, was designed to meet the ever-increasing need of water transportation to the greater Los Angeles area.

This project included installation of 12-foot diameter pressure pipe inside the excavated tunnel. There was additional site work at both of the portals to extend the pipe.
