Freeport Regional Water Intake FacilitiesClient: Freeport Water Authority Location: Sacramento, CA Start Date: March 2007 End Date: September 2011 Contract Amount: $123 million
This project involves the construction of a new intake and pumping
plant (a 185 million gallon per-day capacity) on the Sacramento River.
The plant is composed of eight 2000-hp motors that discharge the water
into an 84-inch raw water pipeline.
Other
components of the project include four large-diameter surge tanks, a
chain and flight sedimentation collection system, a new 69 kv
substation, state-of-the-art fish screens, valves, VFDs and large
diameter pipeline (72-inch and 84-inch). In addition, two microtunnels
are bored under I-5 and Freeport Boulevard.
The
building has glass walls, a structural steel frame with decorated
concrete, an art wall and associated landscaping. The
facility opened in April 2010 after four years of construction.
