Freeport Regional Water Intake Facilities

Client: Freeport Water Authority
Location: Sacramento, CA
Start Date: March 2007
End Date: September 2011
Contract Amount: $123 million

This project involves the construction of a new intake and pumping plant (a 185 million gallon per-day capacity) on the Sacramento River. The plant is composed of eight 2000-hp motors that discharge the water into an 84-inch raw water pipeline.

Other components of the project include four large-diameter surge tanks, a chain and flight sedimentation collection system, a new 69 kv substation, state-of-the-art fish screens, valves, VFDs and large diameter pipeline (72-inch and 84-inch). In addition, two microtunnels are bored under I-5 and Freeport Boulevard.

The building has glass walls, a structural steel frame with decorated concrete, an art wall and associated landscaping.

The facility opened in April 2010 after four years of construction.
