Garrett A. Morgan Pump Station PlantClient: City of Cleveland Location: Cleveland, OH End Date: December 2006 Final Contract Amount: $42.3 million
Faced with an aging system and a growing population, the City of
Cleveland needed a better way to provide safe, reliable water for
drinking. The city embarked on a major plant enhancement program to
modernize its waterworks plants. It contracted National Engineering
Contracting Co. (a wholly owned subsidiary of Balfour Beatty
Infrastructure, Inc.) to build a finished water-pumping station and
demolish a 5 million gallon cell of the existing reservoir.
Construction
of the new station involved erecting a building, 13 pumps and an
outdoor substation, along with piping improvements. Water to the new
building will be supplied from an existing 20 million gallon reservoir.
This
new building, with its Spanish tile roofing, arched windows, and
mezzanine flooring, is as attractive as it is functional. It captures
the look of the former facility built in the early 1900s.
