The Sacramento River Water Intake Replacement project, just south of
the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers, entailed
construction of a new 160 million gallons-per-day pump station.
It includes conveyance piping from the intake structure across a new box girder bridge and under I-5 to the city's
existing treatment plant.
The major work consisted of a cast-in-place reinforced concrete intake
structure constructed in a cofferdam and founded on H-piles; eight
vertical turbine raw-water pumps enclosed in a pump station building,
along with extensive architectural features and local artwork.
The project included an automated stainless steel fish screen cleaning
system, an electrical substation and a public plaza with bicycle paths.
